First of all I would like to introduce myself, the creator of a.o. this website, www.wahrweb.org and others, like www.theminahasa.net (find it here ). I am Roderick C. Wahr, and as of 2002 I started building websites like this one as a hobby. The reason being that I previously was working in ICT. You can find more about me in 'About' elsewhere on this site. After my last big project as an ICT consultant for the Indonesian government, from 1987-2003, I came back to the Netherlands and, being 61yrs old, was no longer attractive for the business community here. This was an unpleasant surprise since I had suffered a set back due to the free fall of Indonesian economy since 1998 and all my financial reserves had dried up and I wasted all my capital. My last joint-venture with a friend, an Internet company 'Website Builders Indonesia' (WBI), founded in 1998, went bust in 2002.
I had started this website for need of something to do in keeping my grey cells active. It was primarily targeted at the older Dutch-Indonesian community, and to give these so called Indo's, an opportunity to bring back some memories from the olden days. My father was a first generation Indo, and born (in 1910) and bred in Indonesia as a child of a Swiss father and an Indonesian mother from the Minahasa (Northern Sulawesi). My mother was a fullblooded Indonesian from the Minahasa.
Ofcourse a website costs money. And over the years I had to rent much space (especially due for music, video's and stories), hosting, to keep the data on. To be precise, 60Gigabyte in space; much! And this is still exclusive of software and the time it costs to fabricate all of this.
In short, it is costing me about € 300,00 per 2 years in costs for hosting and for the domain name, and that is still quite cheap.
Until now I had been able to do it as a hobby. It cost me much time and money, but I found it worthwhile to be able to help the elderly pass their time with nice memories. Unfortunately I can no longer bear the cost.
These websites are maintained only by me (much work, creativity and time!) and I had decided not to place advertisements via Google and others to cover the cost. I personally find it unpleasant to browse through a site pasted full of advertising to find which buttons to click or avoid. However, now I no longer have a choice. I hope you will be able to contribute a donation, because otherwise I will have to close down www.wahrweb.org or else find advertising sponsors if possible and all else fails.
I do hope that you understand the situation. But if there are enough visitors with a small donation of € 10,00 or thereabouts, than I can keep maintaining the costs of maintenance.
I have always made my websites with much love. Even now I am providing renovations, costing much time in learning new technologies and purchasing books and software. I hope I can continue these further developments.
Thank you for reading this far. My best regards to you!
